Prime Minister praises the contribution of the Catholic Church in building a new Rwanda

Prime Minister Dr. Nsengiyumva Justin said that during the 125 years the Catholic Church has existed in Rwanda, it has played a significant role in the country’s development through health services, education, and more.

Dr. Nsengiyumva Justin highlighted this while officially closing the celebrations of the 125th Jubilee of the arrival of the Gospel in Rwanda and the 2025 Jubilee of Christ the Redeemer of the World, an event held at Amahoro Stadium in Remera.

Delivering the message entrusted to him by President Kagame, he said that the country appreciates the tremendous contribution the Catholic Church has made to Rwanda’s development over the past 125 years.

He said: “His Excellency the President of the Republic asked me to convey his greetings and appreciation for the significant role the Church has played and continues to play in the development journey of our nation.”

Prime Minister Dr. Nsengiyumva stated that the Catholic Church has made a visible contribution to the country’s development, particularly in improving the welfare of citizens through education, healthcare, unity and reconciliation, and other areas.

He added: “Over the past 125 years, the Catholic Church has been an outstanding partner in the development of our country. Its contribution is evident in the well-being of Rwandans, especially in education, healthcare, unity and reconciliation, and in building a Rwandan society grounded in values and vision.”

In its 125 years in Rwanda, the Catholic Church has remained one of the Government of Rwanda’s strongest partners. Today, it owns schools, hospitals, and carries out various activities that promote national unity, reconciliation, and healing among Rwandans.
